After studying design and glassmaking for Aurélie, and ceramics and artist assistant for Samuel, we founded our studio as a duo in 2008 and settled in Brittany. We work with “glass paste,” an ancient technique that allows glass to be used as a sculpting material through a molding process.
A duo work,
a dialectic of creation
We began by working in parallel before working together on the same project. The collaboration began when one of us created a sculpture from the other’s world. From that moment on, the boundaries became porous, and a fruitful opportunity for a confrontation emerged without being imposed.
It became more interesting for both of us to uncover the constituent elements of the work in progress through a dialogue in order to better discern them.
In short, working as a duo teaches us to verbalize intimate aspects and translate them into a comprehensible and communicable thought. The effort put into developing the different elements of a sculpture helps us explore beyond our usual fields.
The duo is an artist in its own right, a sort of third entity born from two artists who can simultaneously pursue personal projects.
Experimenting
The transformation of materials is an integral part of the creative process. Glass, with all its technical and aesthetic characteristics, is our preferred material. It offers a multitude of states—fragile, transparent, opaque, translucent, and fragmented—always serving the meaning of the work.
Exploring the material as one explores states of being.
